Fire alarms save lives.
But not everyone can hear them.
Deaf Individuals Most Vulnerable in Fire Emergencies
40% of the deaf people killed in home fires die in their sleep without ever waking.
Deaf individuals may take 30 to 60 minutes to evacuate after the first alarm.
The Warning Gap
In home setting, they heavily rely on vision cues for alerts, but there are many moments that they can’t always watch flashing lights or phone screens.
How might we design a device that can alert deaf individuals during fire emergency and fits easily into their everyday life?
